Your freshly made air dry clay work creation needs 24–48 hours to air dry naturally. No baking required. It will shrink about 10% in volume after drying and will not crack.

How long can the finished air dry clay work be preserved?

Proper storage keeps clay items for about 3 years. Applying a protective coating like varnish can extend their lifespan.

How strong is the air dry clay when dry? Is it waterproof? Does it dry hard or stay squishy?

The air dry clay is not squishy when dry, but it becomes super light like foam. It is not waterproof and will soften if soaked.

Can I paint it? What paints can I use? Do I need to seal it after painting?

Once the air dry clay is completely dry, you can paint it with acrylic or watercolor paints. However, you must seal it after painting (for example, with a water-based varnish) to prevent fading and moisture damage.
